What is energy efficiency and why is it important?

Most of us don’t stop to think about the invisible force powering a light when we flip the switch, but it’s always top –of mind for us here at SRP.

To us, providing a safe and dependable flow of power into Valley homes in the most cost-effective way is critical. As a nonprofit provider of power to over a million customers, we make the most of our precious resources on behalf of our customers and the planet.

What is energy efficiency?

We are always striving to achieve energy efficiency. But what exactly does that mean?

According to the Environmental Energy Study Institute, energy efficiency means using less energy to perform the same task.

When you buy appliances and electronics for your home, you have the option to choose models that are designed to use less energy. In turn, they cost less money to operate. The same is true for SRP but on a much grander scale.

To get our customers in on this mission with us, SRP offers programs to encourage customers to keep energy efficiency at the forefront of their habits. According to our calculations, energy efficiency programs have saved 611,377 megawatt-hours of energy, which is equivalent to powering approximately 35,000 homes.

The benefits of energy efficiency

Energy-efficient technology, programs and infrastructure are beneficial for everyone. Not just for the savings they bring to customers, but also because they help to reduce overall emissions, take some of the strain off our electric grid and ensure a reliable and low-cost energy future.

SRP’s 2035 Sustainability Goals lay the groundwork for efforts that allow us to keep the present and future grid strong here in Phoenix.

Energy efficiency may sound like a lot, but you’re actually already taking part in it if you have made any smart tech upgrades at home, use power during off-peak time-of-day hours, bought an ENERGY STAR® home or switched to LED bulbs. And if not, it’s never too late to get started.

SRP is proud to offer our customers some of the most robust energy efficiency programs in the nation. Start taking advantage of them today.
