But first, you might be asking yourself, \u201cWhat is a smart irrigation controller?\u201d or \u201cDo I really need one?\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consider a smart irrigation controller to be your landscape watering sidekick. Whether you\u2019re growing your own food, flowers or grass, these smart irrigation devices automatically tailor watering schedules and run times on sprinklers or drip systems to meet specific landscaping needs.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These systems use local weather information and\/or site conditions to determine how much water to apply and when to run. Once the smart controller is installed and programmed, little additional monitoring is required.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How much water can a smart controller save? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Aside from not having to worry about assessing your yard\u2019s water needs from day to day, the United States Environmental Protection Agency<\/a> estimates that “a WaterSense labeled irrigation controller” can reduce a home’s water use for irrigation by as much as 30%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are significant water savings as up to 70% of household water use is outdoors<\/a> in the Valley, according to the Arizona Department of Water Resources. You get peace of mind that your yard is properly watered and that you\u2019re doing it efficiently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can I install it myself or do I need a landscape professional? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Smart irrigation controllers vary in their complexity. Installation requires some basic electrical knowledge and can be accomplished by most homeowners in approximately three hours. If you choose to hire someone to install the controller, please check to make sure they are licensed, insured and bonded.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
