Read on for how the recently approved Coolidge Expansion Project will help.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arizona\u2019s population is growing fast, and the demand for power is growing too \u2013 especially in light of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/media.srpnet.com\/srp-customers-set-multi-day-record-for-peak-energy-demand\/\">record-breaking heat waves<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more than 120 years, SRP has met the Valley\u2019s needs through careful planning and innovation. Today, that means balancing\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.srpnet.com\/environment\/sustainability\/2035-goals.aspx\">aggressive sustainability goals<\/a>\u202f\u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.srpnet.com\/es\/forward-together\/#:~:text=At%20SRP%2C%20we%E2%80%99re%20working%20to%20modernize%20and%20secure,and%20water%20future%20will%20take%20all%20of%20us.\">acting as a leading voice in the transition to cleaner energy<\/a> \u2013 with our mission to deliver reliable, affordable and sustainable power.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The expansion of Coolidge Generating Station doesn\u2019t change SRP\u2019s commitment or plans to reduce carbon. In fact, the emissions from Coolidge will be relatively low and will be more than offset by the reduction in carbon emissions from SRP&#8217;s new renewable resources.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SRP\u2019s sustainability commitment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our diversified energy\u202fportfolio\u202ftaps into the most efficient,\u202favailable\u202fand cost-effective mix of generation resources.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the addition of new resources as outlined by our current resource plan, approximately 75% of SRP customers\u2019 energy needs will be met without carbon emissions by 2035.\u202fIn addition:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We have about 500 MW of utility-scale solar projects already online.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We recently brought our largest battery storage facility online to help navigate peak usage periods, which typically occur as the sun goes down.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We have over 2025 MW of new battery storage projects under contract and are actively working with developers to bring these projects online.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Coolidge will support adding renewables&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Coolidge is a quick-start, fast-ramping plant meant to be used when demand for energy is especially high, like during a hot summer afternoon in the Valley. The turbines at this modern facility can ramp up to help us meet demand for electricity in as little as 10 minutes, helping to smooth the fluctuations in renewable power output.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By adding capacity at Coolidge, we can support a reliable transition to cleaner energy and integrate more solar, battery and other renewable resources into the grid. We can also ensure that our customers \u2014 and the region at large \u2014 have access to power all the time, even when the sun isn\u2019t shining or the wind isn\u2019t blowing.\u202fAnd, of course, the Coolidge Expansion Project will comply with all local, state and federal air quality regulations, which are protective of human health and the environment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, SRP is
