When businesses upgrade to electric equipment, they can save on gas costs and reduce their carbon footprint. SRP rebates on electric equipment can help local businesses make the switch. Arizona farm McClendon’s Select took advantage of our rebate program to purchase an electric truck refrigeration unit to transport their produce.
Finding energy solutions
Planted in Peoria, Arizona, Sean McClendon’s farm grows more than 100 varieties of fruits and vegetables across 90 acres of land. They distribute their organic produce to about 90 restaurants across the Valley, and two farmers markets every week. With all the travel from farm to table, McClendon was looking for a solution to use less diesel fuel.
An SRP representative reached out to McClendon about the electrification incentive program. Together, they decided that with the help of SRP, he should invest in new electric transport refrigeration units.
The unit helps maintain a consistent temperature inside the truck where produce is stored for delivery. In the past, farm refrigeration units ran solely on diesel. This new technology offers electric standby. When the trucks return to the farm after deliveries, they can plug into the charger and switch from diesel to electricity.
SRP helps along the way
McClendon is very satisfied with the upgrades and is looking forward to finding other sustainable solutions to implement at his farm.
“I think the more people that know about these programs, the better,” said McClendon. “They will help more business owners transition to electric. It’s a great incentive for people to start thinking about or changing the way they operate to help the environment and lower their operation and maintenance costs.”
SRP’s electrification program is here to help businesses of all sizes switch to electric equipment, including forklifts, electric truck refrigeration units, golf carts and more.
